So why Charlie Sheen you may say? Well as I am enrolled into Strategic Communication, I have to say that Charlie Sheen has utilized social media til its fullest. This person who may or may not be using drugs, fired from his job, flaunting prostitutes right and left and communicating with the public in the most obscene way has gotten more media attention than most.
How do we get the public to listen and how do we communicate in the best way possible? Public Relations professionals want to reach the public and gain their interest and attention. So how has Charlie Sheen used the different outlets of social media to reach his public? Well he is an adamant person on twitter, facebook and youtube. He has figured out the ultimate way to get his delirious messages out to the world. His new vocabulary such as winning and tigerblood has reached everyone out there. His fame has reached more than 3,000.000 million people following him on twitter. His popularity and media interest have made the public a follower, we are interested in his quirky and weird comments and wonder what he will come up next.
So how should we interpret this person that has managed to get enormous attention by just being himself and even promoted deviant behavior? Should we embrace it or is it just accepted because Charlie Sheen have a history as being a celebrity?
My take on this is that social media have made it possibly for people to practice their freedom of speech. The objective is not to hinder but to promote the liberal means the western world provides, so although Charlie Sheen may not be the most morally or ethically correct examples, he has the liberty and freedom to use whatever means he has to communicate with the public.
